5889.0. "digiboards and NT 4.0" by ALFSS2::WHITTINGTON (Where is my Starbuck) Tue Apr 08 1997 04:57

    Has anyone had success getting the Digiboard to communicate on an Alpha
    4100 using NT 4.0. According to my customer, the users are able to dial
    into the Digiboard, the Digiboard makes a handshake, but it does'nt go
    further than that.(no login screen, or anything indicating success).
    They do not have RAS configured. Is this a prerequiste? I have no
    documentation on this product.

    Thanks

5889.1what were they expecting ?BBPBV1::WALLACEjohn wallace @ bbp. +44 860 675093Tue Apr 08 1997 09:247
    What are they expecting it to do (if they don't have RAS configured) ?

    You can't just dial in from a terminal and have it prompt "Username:"
    when you hit return... :-) (not without extra software anyway)

5889.2They would need RAS...ALFSS2::WHITTINGTONWhere is my StarbuckWed Apr 09 1997 11:086
    You are right that without RAS configured they would not get
    username,etc. Apparently, with LOTUS notes, it connects automatically.
    Don't know about this, and will check. I really thought that RAS was
    necessary, but wanted to boundce it off someone.

RE: .2

	Remember, with RAS, you are NOT going to get a "Username:"
	prompt like you would with VMS. This is not VMS. NT is not
	a "timesharing/dumb terminal" operating system. If you
	want that capability, you need to purchase it from someplace.

Or wait for Windows NT 5.0... (at least for the 'timesharing' aspect, don't know
about 'dumb terminal'. But then, as there are already Telnet servers for NT
around, you never know...).
