5889.1 | what were they expecting ? | BBPBV1::WALLACE | john wallace @ bbp. +44 860 675093 | Tue Apr 08 1997 09:24 | 7 |
| What are they expecting it to do (if they don't have RAS configured) ?
You can't just dial in from a terminal and have it prompt "Username:"
when you hit return... :-) (not without extra software anyway)

5889.2 | They would need RAS... | ALFSS2::WHITTINGTON | Where is my Starbuck | Wed Apr 09 1997 11:08 | 6 |
| You are right that without RAS configured they would not get
username,etc. Apparently, with LOTUS notes, it connects automatically.
Don't know about this, and will check. I really thought that RAS was
necessary, but wanted to boundce it off someone.

| RE: .2
Remember, with RAS, you are NOT going to get a "Username:"
prompt like you would with VMS. This is not VMS. NT is not
a "timesharing/dumb terminal" operating system. If you
want that capability, you need to purchase it from someplace.

Or wait for Windows NT 5.0... (at least for the 'timesharing' aspect, don't know
about 'dumb terminal'. But then, as there are already Telnet servers for NT
around, you never know...).
