5888.0. "MODEMS and PCMCIA WINNT V4.0" by GIDDAY::ASHLEY () Mon Apr 07 1997 18:28

    Hi there,

    I have installed WinNT V4.0 workstation on to my (works) HiNote Ultra
    II P5-150. Install the additional Pwr drivers, MMM Cd drivers, Video
    drivers contained in the support file for these systems.

    All appears to be well, except for the the PCMCIA modems that I use. I
    work 100% of my time off site from the local office. So I use modems
    and RAS to connect to the digital world. And I also need to use
    serveral modems, one is the digial supplied modem (Xircom 28.8) on is
    the modem I have to use at the customers site (Bankisa 28.8, the Xircom
    refusers to operate with there exchange).

    The Question:-

    WinNT dosent appear to be able to auto detect the correct modem at boot
    time and update the RAS settings. I have to keep going in to RAS to
    update what modem is loaded and reboot, for RAS to work. Otherwise PAS
    complaines that the hardware is not working pwr it off reset it etc...

    Is this normal? Am I expecting to much form NT at the moment. I have
    rung Microsoft (Sydney Aust) and they were no help the guy even less
    than me. I have not had any training with NT4.0 as yet and have not got
    the resource kit either, I am thinking that I should possable try that.

    Cheers,
    Stephen ASHLEY,
    Darwin OMS.

    	After I ran the upgrade program on my Megahertz 28.8 [which made
    	it into a 33.6], I had to go into set-up and select the 33.6 modem
    	instead.

    	Dial-Up Networking loaded the upgrade in as a separate modem and
    	both were listed, but the 28.8 was still selected until I told it
    	to use the other.

    	This is Windows 95, but I don't expect it to be any different.

    It looks simlar to WIn'95, but as far as I can tell acts different.

    I think that i'll be going back to WIn'95 for the portable device, its
    just alot better.

    I'll have to misout on the SMS tool I am running on the Laptop...

    Too bad.

5888.3NT4.0 PCMCIA modem problemsRDVAX::SMITHThu Apr 10 1997 16:205
    I also had problems with PCMCIA modems and NT4.0 with service pack 2.
    The modem was a USR v.everything, installing the serial and ras
    post-sp2 hotfixes resolved the problems.
