    Hi
    
    I have a customer with Prioris ZX6000 servers running Windows NT V3.51
    (+sp5). Until last week these machines were working fine but during the
    week it appears someone (?) attempted to instal a Digiboard card into a
    couple of machines and then removed them. HOwever, since that time we
    have started seeing error events in the system log from source "srv"
    with a description:
    
    	The server's configuration parameter "irpstacksize" is too small
    	for the server to use a local device. Please increase the value of
    	this parameter.
    
    On other machines in the domain I am no longer able to mount shared
    disks from this or other machines :-(
    
    I assume that whilst inserting the cards something in the config has
    changed and I need to know how to restire the system to the way it was
    (needless to say I don't have a recent emergency repair disk to restore
    the registry :-( ).
    
    Any help in understanding what this event means and how to correct it
    would be much appreciated.

	I have just seen note 4071 and am a bit concerned at having to remove all network components and re-add them to clear this problem :-( Is there any other solution ? Thanks

I added the registry key as documented in this TechNet article and set the value to 8. I then had no further problems. When this is the case, the Event Log on the server in question will contain the following event message: Event ID: 2011 Source: Srv The server's configuration parameter "irpstacksize" is too small for the server to use a local device. Please increase the value of this parameter. You may receive the above error message when a Windows NT client tries to access certain shared directories on such a server. When a Windows for Workgroups client tries to access the same shared directories, the following message will be generated: Path not found. To increase the value of the parameter when it is not already present, drill down to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Services\ LanmanServer\ Parameters key in the Registry Editor and choose Add Value from the Edit menu. The Value Name should be IRPstackSize and the Data Type is REG_DWORD. WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to reinstall Windows NT to correct them. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk.
