Hi, I am trying to help a customer move his current WEB server based on Windows-NT 4.0 from an AS1000 using KZPAA /RZ28s to an AS4000,5/400, dual processor, with MYLEX960 / RZ29s. They were advise by microsoft Premier support that by creating a temp \WINNT system, followed by restoring the backup from the 1000 to the 4000 will work. Then by updating the boot path we should be able bring up the system. However we tried it but it failed claiming that the hal.dll or the osloader.exe is corrupt. We tried replacing it from know working AS1000 and AS4000 but to no avail. Has anyone done something similar and got it to work? We would like to avoid having to re-install and configure applications from scratch if possible. Thanks Justin

I don't think so. The video, SCSI, network, etc. controllers are all different on the 4000 than on the 1000, I would guess. Therefore, when you restore the backup of the 1000, you will have a totally different hardware configuration defined. Unless there is significantly more to their application that a web server, that only takes about 30 minutes to install on a 4000. tgc |
