We have a AlphaServer with 512 MB RAM running NT4.0. The Server resource kit say we can limit the amount of RAM NT uses by modifying the BOOT.INI file and using the MAXMEM=n parameter. This seems to be only true for x86 machines????? Can someone help us do this on Alpha machines? thanks -=Dennis

On an alpha this is done with a BURNMEMORY= command in the 'selection' option - in different places depending on Alpha system. Find the selection, edit boot options and include the command BURNMEMORY=128 if you want 128K LESS memory. Note that BURNMEMORY will only burn up to a 3 digit number. ie you cannot burn 1gig or more. Probably some other BURNMEM0RY examples in this notes file. | |||||

No, this is done in the firmware. In the firmware, there is a menu/screen for modifying boot selections. Go to that menu/screen and select the boot selection you want to modify. Then add BURNMEMORY to the boot option. Scott |
