5830.0. "Update of WNT 4 leaves no network" by OHFSS1::BROWNR (Hope = Deferred Reality) Fri Mar 21 1997 18:42
What a day - I hope someone can help with this ....
I came in and booted my PC, running WNT 3.51. There was an error,
Kernal Files missing - Insert system disk, or something like that.
After a couple of tries, I decided I better try and repair the system.
I got out setuup and my emergency disk. I ran the setup repair. Found
nothing. Booted the system, still can't ... {sigh}
Ok I said. I've had WNT 4.0 on my desk for a while, here is my
opportunity. I upgraded the system and it booted fine. great I
thought until .... The TCP/IP network has diappeared.
Now I went in and check the network adapter - ETHER 3/TURBO. After
some misinderstanding, I replaced it with this adapter again.
Then I tried to bind the network, can't. NETBEUI is all that I can
bind. When I go to PROTCOL and hit properties, nothing happens.
Earlier I was able to enter the necessary IP addresses for my unit, the
gateways, etc. Now I can't do anything.
When I try and remove TCP/IP, I get the error "Unable to remove name
Sapce Provider". So, I'm really stuck. My system comes up locally,
but I can't get out onto the network. IP doesn't respond. Before I
spend the 2 days rebuilding this system, moving backups, and generally
wondering what I'm going to wind up with, can anyone suggest anything ?
Could the registery be at fault ? Help !
