I just installed NT4.0 on my (intel) machine, with the option of being a backup domain controller. Now for some reason i'd like to change this to make it just a 'standalone server'. Is this possible without a re-installation? (Is ANY NT troubleshooting possible without a re-installation?) regards, -- Thilo

re: FRSTSC::TLAUER Hi Thilo, This and related questions come up about once a month. The answer I recall has always been "NO, do a reinstallation." /Bill | |||||

Thilo, Dont forget that for testing you can install into a different directory, and just boot the server install or boot the domain controller install (Just check disk space first). Re the troubleshooting, what area of the system are you trying to troubleshoot? Most things don't require reinstalls to find the source of the problem... lots need reinstalls to fix them 8-) The problem with the server / BDC is mainly with the System ID (SID), with all the BDC's and the PCD sharing a common SID. This is not the case with a standalone server, it has it's very own... with no easy way of going from one to the other hence the need for the reinstall. Greg Harkness Sydney CSC |
