5812.0. "Reusable PMA files" by CHEFS::gjcpc.reo.dec.com::criddle () Wed Mar 19 1997 01:43

Hi...

If one creates a .PMA file using the Performance MOnitor to record a number of
monitor settings on a particular computer, is it then possible to use those
settings to monitor another one?

I have the same monitoring criteria on a number of systems, and am trying to
avoid having to create and maintain multiple PMA files.

Any thoughts?

Rgds,
Graham

    Graham,

I don't know the real answer, but I'm tempted to say, "No, one
cannot reuse the saved configuration files."

I've used PM to monitor multiple systems from one location, and
the system names are on each item being tracked. I just don't
recall if this is true if only the local system is being
    monitored.

Yes, you CAN move those perfmon config files around. We tried
distributing one file to multiple machines running the perfmon DATALOG
service (to monitor locally and send NT events to a central machine).
If you don't specify a system name for an item, it means "the local
machine". You can also put these settings files on a share and have a
    bunch of machines share them.

PS the DATALOG service (on the NT Resource kit) does have some bugs
though - the actual value that triggered a threshold event gets garbaged
in the NT event that gets sent.
