5785.0. "Setup won't fire up" by SMARTT::GEVA () Fri Mar 07 1997 10:55

I installed Windows NT 4.0 workstation on an Pentium-Pro system without any problems. I managed to install
MSOffice '95 without a problem. But when I tried to install other software (for example: Service Pack 2,
Soundblaster software, Netscape, some CD-ROM apps) the "preparing setup" window pops up, and the status
bar goes by, and then I get this message:

Setup requires _SETUP.DLL and _ISRES.DLL (located in _SETUP.LIB) in order to operate properly. Please ensure all
files are located with SETUP.EXE.

With Netscape, all I'm doing is firing off one executable, and with most of the others, the files it is requesting
are already there. I've tried reinstalling WinNT, but it made no difference.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on here?
Thanks,
   -Eylon Geva

The only time I've had problems with setup stalling, I was running
AltaVista Personal Extensions and the indexer was loaded.

This is a known problem with InstallShield and should be fixed in the
latest Netscape Intel kits. The older kits do NOT have the fix. Service
Pack 2 does not require Installshield, so I'd strongly suggest that you examine
your TEMP area for old copies of SETUP.EXE, _SETUP.LIB, etc. I once had
a problem trying to install some kits and no matter which kit I installed it
always tried to install something else. TEMP is the environmental variable
pointing to your temporary disk space.
