5775.0. "Switching a Primary Domain Controller" by BLAZER::MIKELIS (Software Partner's Eng. MR01-3/F26) Wed Mar 05 1997 11:02

I had a network setup with one machine configed as a PDC. I don't remember
if i originally setup the other as a BDC. Anyway, the PDC is no longer
available and now i want to make the other ntserver the PDC so i can admin
my domain. How do i do this? I hope the answer isn't reinstall nt server.

    James,

    Whether you can do the following or not depends on whether you had set
    up your second machine as BDC. If not, start over.

    You can promote the BDC to PDC if the PDC is no longer available, or
    even if it is still running. Just go into server manager for domains,
    click on the BDC, then use the pulldown menu to promote to PDC.

    Cheers,
