5761.0. "Drive write-protected errror, WNNT40" by NETRIX::"[email protected]" (Bill Doyle) Mon Mar 03 1997 08:50

Greetings,
          I hope someone can help. I loaded WNNT 40, SPK2, and 2 hotfixes
       ( rpc40i & wtcp40i ) on six PRIORIS 6200/4. ON one of the machines
        I can not Format a diskette on my A: drive nor can I coopy anything
        to it. I keep getting an error that says, Drive is write - protected,
        unprotect drive and try again. THE Diskette IS NOT write-protected!!

       I have tried the followiing: changed diskettes and used a new one.
       took the diskette to another box ( it works fine ). changed the floppy
       drive. changed flat ribbon cable to floppy. re-ran SCU ( same as all
       other boxes). re-installed bios REV 1.04, rebooted. I looked in NT
notes
       and didn't find any related topics...

       I do not want to believe that it is a mother board controller problem.
       Is there "something" in NT40 that I am not aware of. I would rather
       believe it its operator error...

thanks
Bill

    Another WAG: the combination of SP2 and anti-virus utilities (Norton,
    McAfee) set to auto-start supposedly do bad things with floppy access.

I've got no anti-virus running or installed at this time. I am planning
to be back on the customers site Wedsday, and will check the Network
Security enabled then. If I find the cause of this problem,I will post it
here.

    re: NETRIX::"[email protected]"

    When you get time on the machine, see if you can boot DOS from
    floppy. Does it have write access then? If so, you can rule
    out hardware or BIOS/CMOS issues and concentrate on the NT end.
