5746.0. "Problem with two network cards" by MARVIN::GOODWIN (Pete Goodwin) Wed Feb 26 1997 00:22

I have a Celebris 6200 running Windows NT V4.0 Workstation with two
network cards - one the integral motherboard version, the other a
seperate DE500. Both appear to use the same DEC DC21X4 Adapter Driver
when running. (When I installed the DE500, I used the driver supplied
    on the V4.0 CD.)

One card is plugged into one segment, the other will be plugged into
another (currently its not plugged into anything). However, something
is amiss as TCP/IP breaks. I can ping numbered nodes in the same
segment, but I can get out of the segment itself - hence DNS doesn't
work, so pinging named nodes doesn't work.

Netbeui seems to work fine so I can still other nodes in the same
    domain - it's just TCP/IP that breaks.

To restore TCP/IP I removed the second adapter from network setup.
Anyone know if this can be made to work?

    Pete

I've got two things you can try:

1) Disable the currently unattached DE500 in Network Config/Bindings - NT
might be getting confused because the card is in your configuration and is not
connected to the network

2) Update to the latest DE500 adapter driver - V2.63 - available at
ftp.digital.com/pub/DEC/adapters/ethernet/de500/interim/ - don't quote me on
it, but I believe the driver docs mentioned that upgrading to the latest
version fixes some multiple netcard problems when the cards of are different
types.

Does it matter that the latest driver appears to be for NT 3.51 and I'm
    running NT 4?

re: .2

No, it does not matter. NT 4.0 has support for both NDIS3 and NDIS4 protocols.
By loading the driver originally designed for NT 3.51 you'll be running NDIS3
on your machine. This means you won't be able to take advantage of the
improvements offered by NDIS4
