| Did you use arcinst to create the partition on the machine? If so,
there is a bug in arcinst. Any partitions created by arcinst will
be marked as a system partition. To fix this problem, do the following
in the firmware:
1. At the boot menu, select Supplementary menu.
2. Select the setup menu.
3. Select Edit system environment variable.
4. Type systempartition.
5. Delete the entry that is not the system partition. In your case, it
is the entry that has partition(2) at the end.

| A fixed arcinst is available on Digital's web pages (I forget where).
It fits nicely on an ECU floppy :-)

| There isn't a supported way to modified environment variables under
AlphaBIOS as you should not need to do this.
When you use Hard Disk setup within AlphaBIOS to create partitions
on the drives, it will not marked them as system partitions unless
you do an express format and no system partitions are defined or you
explicitly mark a partition. In the case of express format, it will
marked the smaller partition as the system partition.
For a recovery, read note 5127.17.
