5664.0. "Need help, what could this be?" by JULIET::ROYER (New Year - New Attitude!) Mon Feb 10 1997 10:26

I have the following and need some suggestions/help.

Customer has a Rack mounted Alpha 2100 (3 x CPU) 1 GB of Memory.

    2 Mylex DAC960 Raid controllers.
    	dra0.0.1007.0
    		DRC0.0.0.7.0 - 6 Member Raid 5
    		DRC!.0.0.7.0 - 3 Member Raid 0 + 1
    	drb0.0.1008.0
    		DRD0.0.0.8.0 - 6 Member Raid 5
    		DRD1.0.0.8.0 - 3 Member Raid 0 + 1 Degraded

    3 NCR53C810 controllers.
    	pka0.0.7.0.1001.0
    		DKA0.0.0.1001.0 RZ28D 0008
    		DKA100.1.0.1001.0 RZ28D 0008
    	pkb0.0.7.0.1006.0
    		MKB200.2.0.1006.0 (TZ8X IN A BRICK)
    	pkc0.0.7.0.1009.0
    		MKC500.5.0.1009.0 (TZ8X IN A BRICK)

Now the problem, apparently the Software Windows NT 3.51 detects an
error and the following is displayed.

"SWXCR Monitor Message SWXCR 2 Shows failed but not swapped."

The shelf does not see any such problem, and the hot spare does not
activate. The user and everyone have no problem with the drive.
SWXCRMGR does not see any problem. All drives are optimal.

Help, is there a problem with this kind of configuration? The tape
drives are on a single shelf, that is running split bus mode.

    Thanks,

    Dave

this is resolved, the drive was apparently having bad blocks that were
being replaced. The NT is not intellegent enough to deal with that,
and therefore was having a drive showing failed. Raid shelf did not
    see any problem.

Swapped the drive, and the parity had to be checked/repaired and we
    were back in business.
