Hi, A customer has reported a strange problem with NT 4.0 (no SP as of yet) Workstation on a Celebris 5133 GL ST pc (2 actually). After installing NT he logged in as Administrator and created an ordinary user account. BUT when user logs in after a reboot (user IS prompted for username & pw) the PC hangs on the windows screen - no icons, grups, etc comes up. The same happen every time user tries to log in. Administrator can log in no problem. Only workaround is for Adm. to log in, then do a "logon as a different user" and then log on as the ordinary user. Doing this, the user always manages to log on and work without any problems. No error are recorded in the Event Viewer. I have asked the customer to upgrade BIOS from 1.01 to 1.03, which is the newest but have not found any other references to this problem. Q) Has anyone else experienced this problem? Q) Will SP1 or SP2 fix (no references to this problem in SP's problem-fix descriptions, as far as I can see)? Thanks, Bjarne Christensen, CSC, OSlo :-)

re: OSLLAV::BJARNEC_P This sounds like a problem with file permissions to the system files. Please check. /Bill

Hi Bill, Thanks - I'll check it out. A bit strange, though, considering both machines (=all machines) are brand new and have just been installed from scratch. Is there some known bug in NT WS 4.0 base kit? BTW: I have asked him to upgrade to SP2, anyway. Thanks, Bjarne

Hi, I have the same problem on my home PC (Venturis 5120 32Mb). When I log in as Administrator I have no problem, but when I login as another user (member of Administrators) then I have the same problem 90% of the time, if I then do a power off/power on there is a big change that I can login, but not allways. I have Windows NT Server 4.0 with SP2 installed. And newest version of the BIOS (2.01) /Per |
