Now there's a challenge!!
Has he done the math? 600GB in 6 hours equates to about 12 TZ88s
running flat out, everything compressable, maximum transfer rate (2.5MB)
across the bus, and no time for tape changes. Even my large VMS
sites do not back their 600GB databases in fell swoop. They generally
do incrementals.
Now is that data is split across 24 systems, each with its own TZ88,
it becomes very manageable.
So, what exactly is your customer trying to do? What sort of a
configuration are we looking at?

With the new TZ89 due to ship next month, there are possible solutions.
But this is so leading edge, you will not find a reference site.
What does the disk configuration look like ?
Can the disk handle the bandwidth ?
How many PCI slots do you have free for SCSI controllers ?

| Actually, if you're looking for a solution,
there are much faster drives than DLT's but
Digital doesn't make them. Look at the
StorageTek Redwood drives and the configuration
cited in http://www.legato.com/press/digora_pr.html,
which achieved 420 GB/hr non-networked backup.

There are faster drives made than a DLT, but I don't
think any of them are supported on Windows NT. The TZ89 is
supported.

| I heard that Exabyte recently released a
Redwood driver for NT.

| I can't give you any more details on the customer site. I will visit the
customer in the near futur to get all the backgound information. I got those
requirement from the sales (100GB/h).
The story is that the customer tried to solve the backup problem by himself
and
faild. He is now looking for help.
And I try to get as much information and other experience on the issue as
possible before my first fisit.
kind regards
Juerg
