| Do the drivers at www.service.digital.com/open3d/ provide hardware
OpenGL acceleration ? It's not obvious to me from the kit or web page...
In the past, ZLXp only got hardware accelerated OpenGL if you installed
the GSS floppy kit first. Installing the drivers off the net only gave
you a more recent version of what you already had. Ie you couldn't get
hardware acceleration without the original floppy (unless you knew how
to edit INF files and such :-). This was in the release notes in the
kit, and was because SGI were owed money every time we sold one.
Where do we stand now ? Are the licence police busy elsewhere, or did
the rules change ?
The question arises from customers with GSS floppy (ie legit) who don't
want to bother installing NT3.51 and then upgrading, if the net kit has
the acceleration anyway for NT V4.
Sorry if this has been asked and answered before (if it has, I couldn't
find it here with GL in the title).

john
ps
is there a reason the release notes are in Word format ? It's not real
helpful for customers were Word isn't yet endemic...

| To my understanding on this issue, the stock Microsoft installation
only installs a TGA Compatible Driver. This driver is not OpenGL
Accelerated. To get OpenGL Acceleration, one must, at the end of the
installation process, manually remove the TGA Compatible Driver and
manually add the TGA OpenGL Accelerated driver. Note, manual does not
imply file copying, this process is done throught the Display Control
Panel. You must choose NEW driver when prompted NOT current, so that
the new driver get's picked up from the floppy disk.
Check it out, this is the way it works on my Multia nad lord only knows
the number of installations I have performed on it.
