I have heard from more than one person that the Office 97 install
messes up your local Exchange configuration. Maybe re-installing
Exchange is only way to fix it.

5635.2 | Shouldn't you be using outlook? | IAGO::tay1dhcp96-55.tay1.dec.com::CUMMINGS | Relax, have a homebrew! | Tue Feb 04 1997 07:30 | 9 |
| Office 97 comes with the new Outlook client which
includes the functionality in the Exchange and Scheduler
clients and more. So if your planning to use Outlook
I don't think you want to re-install Exchange.
Unfortunately, I don't have Office 97 myself so I can't
offer much help with how to configure Outlook!

5635.3 | Outlook doesn't work under V1.1 | DECWET::MVB | Monty VanderBilt | Tue Feb 04 1997 08:26 | 4 |
| FX!32 V1.1 does not officially support Office 97. You are, of course, free to
try anything you like. There is a discussion of the problems with Office 97
under FX!32 V1.1 in TALLIS::FX!32. Specifically, Outlook does not work. You
need to reinstall the exchange client to get your email working again.

5635.4 | every thing OK but... | KAOFS::S_BAINS | | Tue Feb 04 1997 08:44 | 9 |
| I understood that FX!32 was on alpha platforms. I have an Intel box . I
can use my exchange and do everything I could before but if I work
offline and when I'm back in the office and connect to the server then
any work I've done will not get updated with the server. Do I need some
more privileges with my account on the server.
thanks

RE: .4
Did you try removing and re-adding your profile and creating
a new .OST?

5635.6 | not tried yet | KAOFS::S_BAINS | | Tue Feb 04 1997 12:02 | 11 |
| Mike,
No I haven't tried deleting and recreating my profile, I did create a
second profile but when I selected it and went into outlook it did not
pick up any mail stuff no folders or anything. So I was a little afraid
of completely removing my somewhat working profle and start from
scratch. Can you tell me what the .OST file is for
Thanks

The OST file is your offline folders.. When you create a new
Exchange profile, it asks you if you are travelling with this
computer. If you say yes, an Offline folder is created. You
can do this manually also. (see help, search for offline)

5635.8 | Never Mind | DECWET::MVB | Monty VanderBilt | Wed Feb 05 1997 11:02 | 7 |
| Sorry about the FX!32 note. I've got Alpha on the brain and the problem
reported was similar to what we're seeing in emulation.
Never mind.
P.S. I have had no trouble using x86 Exchange and Outlook
interchangably from both a desktop PC and a portable via RAS.
