Hello All, I plan to UPGRADE my AXP150 (Jensen) running NTServer 3.51 (SP4) to NTServer 4.0. Are there some problems I should take care of in advance??? (e.g Graphic controller drivers etc.) Currently the servers is a PDC, & Linkworks & Macintosh (file & print) server. Thanks in advance, Doron.

Re .0, i've upgraded mine to 4.0 without any special preparations. You should however, be aware of the changes in NT 4.0/SP2 that will affect backward compatibilities with earlier version. When you move to 4.0, take care to install a new boot selection (do not do an upgrade if you have sufficient disk space) for rolling back. Stay with 4.0 (no SP installation) until you are satisfied that everything works. When you install SP2, NTFS disk format will change such that earlier versions of NT will recognize the NTFS disks but will not be able to read them and will report them to be corrupted. At that time, it is costlier to roll back. This is true on all NT platforms (x86 & Alpha). --svb

5604.3 | ? NTFS = f(SP2) documented?? | RICKS::OPP | Sun Jan 26 1997 16:05 | 9
RE: .1 Is this behavior of SP2 w.r.t. NTFS documented anywhere? I don't recall seeing this information in the ReadMe file. I also don't recall any dialogue boxes to warn users of this not back- ward compatible for NTFS partitions. Thanks, Greg
5604.4 | is it NTFS-3.51 vs NTFS-4.0 ????????? or v4 SP1 ??? | BBPBV1::WALLACE | john wallace @ bbp. +44 860 675093 | Mon Jan 27 1997 01:57 | 3 |
I thought I'd seen it documented (and been caught out by) 3.51 systems being unable to read any V4-created NTFS disks (thanks, Bill). I've never let SP2 near anything of mine or my customers. |
