Hi A customer is porting a ISA device driver for a voice card from MS-DOS to Intel-NT. The device driver is developed in Microsot C. The customer is looking at Alpha-NT as the target platform for the software. What is the portability of such a software from Intel-NT to Alpha-NT ? What guidelines should one follow to develop a portable device driver ? Are there any documents which can be useful ? Thanks in advance. Ajit Kale

Re .0, the portability of such a driver (once working on Intel NT) is good to excellent if the developer follows some of the basic guidelines in the NT DDK. There are materials in there as well as in the MSDN that cover things to look out for. However, they are quite scattered. DECwest Engineering has also developed several write-ups that can also be helpful in specific driver porting scenarios. Please send mail to [email protected] with as much details as possible about the vendor/customer and their driver. We'll give you a hand. --svb |
