5442.8 | locked-down memory ???? | XFMV01::AJITK | Thu Feb 06 1997 01:27 | 9
Hi The paper mentions that though virtual addressing is used, it has to be backed by locked-down physical memory. What does this mean ?? Thanks in advance. Ajit

The VLM virtual address space is not paged. If your application requires more VLM space than is available in physical memory, your application has to manage the space itself. Oracle and MS SQL already do this type of activity in process adress space today, so do not view this as a detraction. They view it as a practical reality. Purists may not view it the same way.
