5383.3 | Office 97 on Alpha NT 4.0? | SMURF::STRANGE | Steve Strange, UNIX Filesystems | Thu Jan 30 1997 15:38 | 6 |
| I just tried installing Office 97 under NT Alpha 4.0 (w/service pack
2), and setup complains that its 'not intended to be used with your
version of Windows'. Does this mean we can't run Office 97 under FX!32
while we wait for the native versions?

There is a running discussion about Office 97 on NT Alpha and
FX!32 in the FX!32 notes conference. It works (except for some
problems with the new Outlook). The key is to use the install
x86 program. Do you have the latest version of FX!32?

I believe I'm running the latest FX!32 -- I got it from the website
just a couple days ago. The Manager claims its V1.0, build b0124-001.
Is the 'install x86' program the same as Setup.exe in the top
directory? I'm trying the install from a share, and I'm probably about
the only person running on an Alpha, so I would expect this Setup.exe
to be an intel binary.
Thanks,
Steve

| The "install x86" program was referring to a component of FX!32, not
Office. Go into your FX!32 folder in your Start Menu, do you see an
item "Install X86 Application" ? Run it and point it to the setup.exe
of Office.

Thanks! -- that got the install going. Now it's dying during the file
copy stage of the install when it tries to install stuff in the
'Windows Messaging' folder. Maybe the NT service pack 2 is causing
problems.

| I've successfully installed Office97 on my Jensen using a version of FX!32 prior
to the V1.1 beta. (I'm now running the released V1.1.)
The basic functionality I require works fine. Even the Office Assistants pop up
and wave at me.
