5169.19 | Installation problem. | MQOOA::LEDOUX | Vincent [email protected] | Tue Feb 25 1997 08:46 | 37 |
| Hi all,
I ftp'ed the latest Alpha version (3.01) from the Microsoft Ie web site.
It has 3.2 Meg.
I am currently running NT Server 4.0 SP2 on a 21164/300 Mhz.
(iexplorer 2.0/alpha works fine btw.) I only have FX32 V1.1
installed as other layered thus far.
The installation starts, ask me for license, start copying a few
files in C:\winnt40\system32 etc....
Then it says:
"Installation Failed: Unable to determine or construct a path for
the Program Files Directory"
The Program Files dir is on C:\Program files\
Ie 2.0 is in C:\Program Files\plus!\Microsoft Internet\
and again, works fine.
If I delete or rename the 2.0 directory, it recreates it
put a few files (iexplorer.exe) but clicking on it results
on nothing happening.
If I go in add/remove program in control panel, I see
Internet Explorer 3.0 If I try to delete it it says
the removal was successfull, but the entry still remains
in the add/remove program window.
What am doing wrong?
Do I need Ie 3.0 installed first?
If so, where is the kit?
Any answer welcome...
Vince.

| re: -.1
Forget about the previous reply,
Re-installing NT 4.0 server (in "Upgrade" mode)
fixed the bug.
Although I have no idea what could've caused the
problem.
Does anyone...?

5169.21 | Service Pack? | dlj.alf.dec.com::jennings | This space for rent | Wed Feb 26 1997 06:35 | 2 |
| Well, if you re-installed from the CD-ROM, you replaced the files from the
service pack. Perhaps you were seeing a service pack problem.

| re: -.1
Nope, I tried removing msie 3.01,
re-update SP2,
re-installaing MSIE 3.01, successfully.
Must be one of those unexplainable glitch.
Thanks anyway,
Vince.

Anyone have any ideas? (other than reinstalling :)

5169.24 | WNNT drive letter wrong in registry - ok now | TURRIS::av_pc1.shl.dec.com::sullivan | | Mon May 12 1997 21:56 | 5 |
| Fixed. The problem was that the WINNT drive letter was
wrong, all the way through the registry. After I
corrected the regigistry, the install worked.
