    >> Wouldn't Office97 be great!

The latest rumors include it as well. See note 2734 in the Windows95
conference. Nothing official there, just continued word that it is
close. (This is taking longer than the release of Windows95 - maybe
it'll be settled just as NT 5.0 is released).

5124.12what I've heardSUFRNG::VMSNET::S_VORESmile - Mickey's Watching!Fri Jan 31 1997 07:5120
We've gotten memos that indicate that this is more than rumour, that
"Licensing has been handled at a corporate level" and that "we may deploy
selected Microsoft products" including ...

MS-Windows v. 3.1
MS-Windows v. 3.11 for Workgroups
MS-Windows 95 (and all further releases/upgrades to this product)
MS-Windows NT for Workstation/PC v. 3.51
MS-Windows NT for Workstation/PC v. 4.0 (and all further releases/upgrades)
Client Access for Windows NT Servers (all versions)
MS-Office (Standard) [all versions up to and including Office 97 and all further
  releases/upgrades]
MS-Office Professional [all versions up to and including Office Pro 97 and all
  further releases/upgrades]

Note that this does not include FrontPage or NT Server

You need to purchase media (through stream?) or contact a "site coordinator"
to find a network copy.

So does this mean I can use someone else's copy of office97 and be legal?
Or should I get my own media anyway?

According to Note 859.3 in the BOOKIE::WINWORD conference,
Digital's license for the Office suite is a maintenance
agreement, not a corporate license per se. As a result
upgrades do not require an upgrade license, but new
installations do need to have licenses purchased.

It sure would help to have an authoritative clearinghouse for
        corporate license issues.

What is the part number for the Alpha NT Server 4.0?

Stream could not tell me...

Thanks,
Brad.

    The same as Intel.

It's always been on the same disk, since the first released version of
Windows NT. You'll need the license and the media (seperate part
    numbers).

And ignore the part number for "Workstation" license. If it's for
internal use, we already have a corporate license. (NOT SERVER, only
    Workstation.)

Re .16: the Alpha kit wasn't on the first CD release of Windows NT, because it
didn't exist yet.

re: .19

I think you mean back before 3.1, because since 3.1 on it has been on
the same CD. I've been installing from the same CD since then. Your
statement 'because it didn't exist yet' isn't very clear as to what
	the antecedent of 'it' is.

In order to stop a long string argument on the "3.1 issue": The "first
pressing" of NT V3.1 was at the end of July, 1993. This was build 511,
and did NOT contain the Alpha version. V3.1 was re-released in
mid-September 1993, build 528, and did contain the Alpha support.

The 6 weeks (and 17 builds) in between was the time required to do the
final check-ins of the Alpha support to the source tree, do the final
testing, and back-fit and some of the non-Alpha-specific bugs found into
    the other architectures.

5124.22Does NT V4.0 really have a corp. license?STSDEV::GRAYBruce Gray, Test Equipment DesignThu Apr 03 1997 14:519
In Re: .18 by Ron van Zuylen:

Excuse me, but where have you gotten the information that Windows NT
V4.0 has a corporate license? I see from ELF that you are part of the
CCS organization, but your org's own web pages say that only V3.51 has
a license agreement (look at http://www-ccs.wro.dec.com/NT/Kits/WinNT/).

5124.23It's a "corporate" thing...PYRO::RONRon S. van ZuylenThu Apr 03 1997 17:365
Please follow through with your business group management if you have
any questions. We have techically had a corporate license for 4.0
Workstation, in addition to some other new products, since ~January 1.
