Another question about discovery: when a Windows NT workstation client
has found a DC for validations, does it stick with this DC as long as
    it is up?

Think of the following typical scenario: a remote site with a local
BDC (and a remote PDC somewhere, and potentially other BDCs reachable
    through a WAN).

If the local BDC happens to be down when a client comes up, and it
discovers the remote PDC, does it continue just to send validation
requests to it even when the local BDC is up again?

    The answer to .4 is:

    NO!

When the user logs on, the WS will use (depending on configuration)
LMHOSTS (in sequence order), WINS (if set up) or broadcast (LAN).

I think the default is WINS, broadcast, LMHOSTS.

WINS will put local BDCs (based on IP address) at the top of the
    requested list.
    Hope this helps,

I'd not heard that part - where have you found this documented?

Also remember that WINS will only hold/return up to 25 domain
controllers; if you've got a very large network with one/more BDC's in
each subnet, you may want to change the DhcpNodeType parameter to 4
(M-node), which will have it do a broadcast (finding your local
    controller) before it asks WINS.

    I was almost right!

It is in Mircosoft course documentation (Windows NT
Server in the Enterprise). If you can get to see a copy P315

"The WINS query for <1C> returns the 25 Domain Controllers to register
the name. Any Domain Controllers after 25 are not listed in the
response, though locally registered servers (as opposed to those
discovered through replication), are given priority in the response
message. This is to provide a list of Domain Controllers that are in
    close proximity to the client"

    Hope that clears it up.

    should read
