| Ok. I've got a new one.
Running NT Workstation, V4.0, SP2.
I can play most Audio CD's just fine... I'm listening to one now. The
Carpenters. I don't happen to have the audio cable, so I listen
through the external audio jack. No problem.
The other day I bought the new soundtrack from the EVITA movie. It
won't play! It plays on a normal audio CD player. It even plays on my
Windows95 CD at home. But this one CD (actually, both.. its a two CD
set) won't play on my WinNT V4.0. It would appear to be a Toshiba CD
drive (XM5301B/D1).
WinNT Windows Explorer shows the correct number of files. Once I
managed to doubleclick on the first file, and it played it... but I
could not get it to play anything thereafter. The CD play app simply
says there's a data disc or no disc loaded.
Again... other audio CDs play fine. And this CD plays fine on an audio
CD player and on Win95.

| I've noticed this problem with music CDs with programs on them.
Starting a fresh cdplay.exe and then inserting the CD sometimes works.
I think you can also disable the auto execute features by holding
down the shift (or control?) key while loading the CD.
If you install FX!32, you may be able to see the video content of the disc.

You're not alone. I have the same setup as you and had trouble with the new
Silverchair CD. Explorer doesn't recognize it. The CD Player doesn't
recognize it. The Media player *does* recognize it, but you must listen to the
CD starting with song 1. If you try the forward options, it kicks you back to
the first song.
This is going to be a SERIOUS drag if more music CD companies add SW. I'm not
surprised you don't have a problem under Windows 95. Don't these companies
ever test under NT?
