51.0. "Give it a REST!! (flame note)" by VICKI::CRAIG (No such thing as too many cats) Wed Nov 24 1993 09:54

Don't you just *hate* it when someone appears at your office entrance
and begins a ten-minute blathering session about some non-work-related
tripe, and won't get the hint that my continuing to type at the
terminal, giving monosyllabic answers, and not looking up means I'M
NOT INTERESTED in listening to a RUNAWAY MOUTH?!?

Must be nice to have zero work to do and still get paid for bothering
co-workers.

Whew... thanks, I feel better. Nice release, this conference! :-)

I find it works better to be direct (and polite if possible) instead of
just using monosyllables and "hoping" they get the message.

For example, I might say:

Can I get back to you on this ? I have some interesting things
I can tell you about kayaking on the Yukon too, but I need to rush
	this job just now.

    How about saying.

"I'm sorry. I haven't got time to talk right now. I've got work to do
     and I need to concentrate."

or if you are the more direct sort:

"Please leave. I'm busy. You're preventing me from getting my work
     done."

I recall using "Can I politely ask you to go away?"

And to think of all of the people that are gone, who get's to do their
work. Who has time to chit-chat?

People that make you go "Hmmmmmm!"

Good point, Dave. We worker bees *do* seem to be the most expendable.

    Yeah, I know, another topic...
