I'd like to post a note to ask for prayers for a friend of mine.
After his sister told me this morning that she's asking everyone
she sees to please pray for him, I told her I'd post this note.
His name is Danny and he's been in intensive care for a week with a
failed liver. He's in an alcoholic coma, has suffered a cardiac
arrest (they worked on him for 25 minutes trying to revive him) and
he's bleeding internally. They are afraid he may have brain damage
but they won't be able to tell how accurate the brain scan is due
to toxins in the brain. The doctors are only giving him a 1% chance
of survival. Even though they do not expect him to live, his family
is holding onto that 1% with everything they've got.
He is only 40 years old and his family is very dear to me. Please
include him in your prayers. He's a wonderful person. He really would
"give you the shirt off his back", as they say, and he has a great sense
of humor. That's Danny ... always having a funny story to tell and
constantly making you laugh. If you or I told the same story it
wouldn't be funny, but if Danny told it, complete with his imitations
and facial expressions - you'd be rolling on the ground laughing.

Mary,
You have mine. I went through something similar with my 29-year-old
brother last December. He got pancreatitis after years of heavy
drinking, and it almost killed him. A week in the hospital later, he
was OK.
I hope Danny turns out OK too.

I've known Dan since grade school. Mary is right on the mark when she
says he'd give you the shirt off his back. He certainly is a master at
story telling and making all him knew him laugh. Were all very aware
that he'll need more than prayers and thoughts of him to pull through,
but for today thats all we have. Any prayers you have will be deeply
appreciated by his family and friends I'm sure.

This hits me very close to home. I lost my brother in March to
alcoholism. He would have been 43 on October 2nd. My heart goes out
to you and the family, and I will keep him in my thoughts.
