38.0. "Struggle of Cultures" by MUDIS3::FISCAL (Artur Fiscal @MFR) Mon Aug 16 1993 06:47

hello everybody
interested in multi-cultural affairs ? please read !

In the latest issue of the German weekly "DIE ZEIT" (13.August) I read
an article written by Samuel P. Huntington titled "Im Kampf der
Kulturen" (Struggle of Cultures)

This article appears/appeared in an extended version in the American magazine
"Foreign Affairs" (I don't know the issue).

I am very much interested in the original article and looking for a
way to get this article. (Hardcopy, FAX, or a scanned version)

If someone has found the article mentioned above would you please
contact me via E-Mail - Artur Fiscal@MFR - or reply to this note. Thank you!

Regards
Artur

Call your local library, tell them the title of the article
and the author, and the magazine...and they can find the volume
and actually get you a photocopy for a xerox fee. It's
called "interlibrary loan" and any patron can request a single
copy of any article...they can look it up in the reference
book that lists all magazine articles in the US by author and
title. Or you can go in look it up yourself.

This doesn't have anything to do with the base note, but the topic
title reminded me of a movie currently playing at a couple of Boston
    theaters: "The Wedding Banquet".

It's a very well-done film which explores the clash of cultures when
the family of a Chinese man tries to marry him off, against his wishes
to stay in a long-term relationship with an American man.

It's more of an Asian/American clash-of-traditions film than a gay
film, but both issues are handled very well.

re .2, I loved this movie! I've actually seen it twice. It's very
touching, and funny, too. All of the main characters are very
appealing as people. The actual wedding banquet itself is probably the
funniest thing I've seen in the movies this year.

Hi

Just like to say if The Wedding Banquet is available on video, then do try and
make an effort to hire it.

I dragged my boyfriend along to this movie a couple of months ago, as it was the
star feature of our local film festival. Much to my suprise and his amazement
he really enjoyed it, and I found that it was one of the funniest and most
entertaining movies I've seen in a long long time.

re .4, The Wedding Banquet is currently playing in theaters in Boston
and Cambridge. As .4 says, it's well worth seeing.
