I recently came into contact with a woman who was very unhappy at being a woman. Her ambition was to have a sex change operation. Her situation was complicated by the fact that she is Muslim and that she comes from South East Asia and consequently the operation was out of her financial reach. She has since had to return. I put this in here as I would like to read any comments that might help me understand transvestites/transsexuals. BTW I have spent some time trying to get this 'safe' and inoffensive! I would simply like to read any comments about this aspect of sexuality which I know very little about. Linda

First of all, you'll have to understand that there is a significant difference between transsexuals (which is what the woman you describe seems to be) and transvestites. A lot of people think they are related. A transvestite is a person who dresses as if they were the other sex, but by itself, it is just a behavior and not related to the person's underlying sexual identity. Steve | |||||

Somebody replied here giving me a pointer in .2 This note has since disappeared so I am putting this in for anyone else who is interested. I was directed to read note 655 which in turn recommended 329 among others. They made for very interesting reading and much better comprehension of gender related "problems". |
