1104.0. "Special interest groups R us???" by NCDEL::LITASI (to the land of Gitchi-Goommie....) Thu Nov 08 1990 18:13

Yesterday, in Minnesota, the voting population voted out the Democratic
Governor who has ruled for 12 years. In his place is the former state
Auditor who entered the race 2 weeks before the elections as a
replacement for the idiot who got caught swimming nude with teenagers
and messing around on his wife....but that's another story... ;^)

Today I was talking to a co-worker about all the people who were going
to be replaced (commissioners, etc) in the state govt just because they
were on the wrong side... One very effective woman mgr already knows
her job is gone because she is a family friend of the ousted gov'r.
She is important to Digital, as are some other people, because various
groups in the state have purchased systems from us. Now our future
work (and maybe some of the present work) will be affected by the
    change in governors.

For the first time in my life, I found myself really confused by the
dilemma. People in the state govt are getting fat and lazy and we
needed a change, yet, Digital's business could suffer for it. As a
citizen I've never had a conflict voting my conscience, but as an
employee I want to see Digital do well.

I feels funny... anyone got comments???

How awful for those people! But, I don't understand the connection.
This woman manager works for who? Digital? Then why does it matter who
she is friends with? Who is doing the firing?

I would hope that a good argument could be made that Digital still
has something of value to offer the state. Are you saying that our
business with the state was entirely dependent upon a personal
realtionship with ONE manager in the state govt????

Also, if she is a civil servant, than she should be protected from
arbitrary dismissal. If she is a political appointee, then she knew
the risks when she took the job.

Where is the conflict? Vote as your conscience dictates. You have to
    live with the results.

What she is saying (IMHO) is that the ousted government did a lot of
business with Digital and the new one may not do the same amount. But
(to the base noter) you are taking a negative few of it. For all you
know the new government may do even MORE business with Digital.

Besides... outside of Military functions I doubt that Digital relays
too heavily on State Government supporting it's facilities.
