Don't mean to offend anyone, just some third rate literary criticism of
mine...
> Book of Joshua -
No, I don't like the story there. Too much violence with the
wholesale slaughter of Jerico. Also the sun and the moon standing still
thing--good for science fictions, but not very effective with the genre.
> Book of Daniel -
Don't quite like this one either...
> Book of Job -
Now this one is a masterpiece. There are still things I find distasteful,
but it is the only way to handle the moral dilemma. Fatalism permeates
the story that creates a sense of vastness only matched by that of
T.S. Eliot's Four Quartets.
> Song of Solomon -
Oh, I have read better poetry than that, but can't really say since I
read them in English, and we all know poetry doesn't translate very well.
...
My most favorite Scripture: Book of Job with the Sermon on the Mount run
a close second.
My least favorite Scripture: Revelation. To put it mildly..., I don't
know what the guy had for lunch...

Chapter 4 Female Loneliness
Chapter 5 Family Life
Chapter 6 Widows and Widowers
Chapter 7 The Work Connection

Chapter 9 Communities
I recently read this book. It is a well written and informative
book. It does not attempt to solve the problem of loneliness, but
informs the reader about the magnitude and scope of the problem and the
effects it has on people of different backgrounds. The author has
avoided the dry statistical approach in favor of telling the stories of
many different real people. (One statistic that was mentioned: between
1950 and 1980, the number of people living alone in America increased by
385%.)
I recommend this to anyone.
