| I too feel the sadness, and I was not related to anyone involved
in the disaster. I saw on the news last night they had a special
service for all of those who were killed, and it brought back the
nightmare of that day. I live here in California, and I remember
all the news coverage when it happened, and wondered how such a
thing could happen. I was angry that there were warnings to the
airline and they were not listen to them. I prey for the families
and hope that someday the pain will lessen, but it will always be
in their hearts....

There has been VERY little information that any government is willing
to talk about with respect to this happenning. There have been
accusations (sp?) of cover-ups with MANY governments.... The area was
shut off to the public for a while......am I wrong...is it still?
One thing is for certain.....there were far too many shady things going
on down under the Reagan presidency (things I myself in 80' would have
never of imagined with him.....then again, I didn't live in Calif. when
he was governor.).....CIA not excluded.

As the mother of college-age children, the thought of the lives of the
Syracuse University students cut short and the grief that their parents
have to bear really hits home.
It's frightening to realize how cheaply some people, terrorists and
politicians alike, hold our children's safety. I'd like to see some
kind of accountability, both for whoever caused the tragedy and whoever
allowed it to happen by apathy/negligence in not warning the
passengers.
And, as much as I like to get cheap air fares, I'd certainly be willing
to pay more for increased airport security measures. How do other feel
about it?

| Just an extra line or two...
I went to the village last week and saw the stone, the village is mostly
repaired, but not the feelings of that terrible Christmas.
How do we humans continue to do these things to ourselves and our children?

| I hope to visit the UK again soon and when I head north to my relatives
in Cheshire hope to drive further up to Lockerbie...
I would gladly pay full fares if that's what it takes to put the extra
fire power into security measures.
I applaud Northwest for their openness about the bomb scares on their
Flight 51 this holiday weekend.
Maybe letters to the airline and Transportation Board are in order...

928.6 | It's up to us to decide | HANNAH::SICHEL | All things are connected. | Tue Jan 02 1990 23:33 | 21 |
| > How do we humans continue to do these things to ourselves and our children?
This is a very good question. I believe we really do, in effect, do these
things to ourselves.
If we judge others harshly, we will be judged harshly.
If we use violence against others, others will use violence against us.
If we try to control others by fear (deterence), others will try
to control us by fear (terrorism).
We have to make a choice. Do we want to live in a world ruled by the
law of force, or the force of law?
Today, with nuclear weapons, the law of force no longer works. Ultimate
use of force means the destruction of our planet. But we haven't figured
out what to use in place of force for dealing with stubborn conflicts,
and thus we drift.

I agree Peter.
I see the only hope for any of us is that we really do what most religions
advise - love one another. Sounds trite and 'corny' and out of fashion but
it is very hard to really do.
