731.1 | Spring is in the air... | MPGS::PELTIER | | Tue Apr 04 1989 14:26 | 21 |
| I will start with this first reply....
Right around June 1st, I wish that I had gone to school to be a teacher
so that I could have the whole summer off. I suppose that this would be
'summer fever'.
As for Spring Fever, my main symptom is cheeriness. I seem to smile a
lot more than I do all winter. March 21st rolls around and I can't
wait to start wearing all of my spring clothes. In fact, sometimes I do
where my spring clothes and end up freezing.
As for cures, I don't think there are any. Go with the flow of your
spring fever and enjoy it ! Buy yourself a bouquet of flowers from a
roadside stand and put them on your desk at work. Once spring gets
here, I like to take it with me everywhere I go.
Another thing that I notice is that many people become very flirtatous
in the spring time .... I guess that is what most people consider a
good old case of Spring Fever !

r n F v r ='s bounciness
My cures are hang the clothes on the line, put all the birds on
the porch, put the motorcycle on the road, air the house, clean
everything including the closets, wash the cars, clean the inside
of the cars, do all the windows, take naps in the sunshine, call/visit
the family more, take the horse out for exercise(without getting
killed) fly a few kites, go target shooting, try on bathing suits
vowing to loose all necessary weight! Spending more time w/my boyfriend
and making sure I have enough time to kick up my heels and do whatever
comes into my mind.

| As noters of other files may recall, I'm a spring skier, but wow.
This spring has marked a new and exciting period in my life. I'm
finally past recovering some of the real unpleasant parts of some
of my past mistakes and decisions, and now, I'm enjoying *everything*
I'm doing, well, usually. But so much more than I used to enjoy,
anyway. Reading, cooking, walking, talking, writing, driving,
listening, planning, working, being ME...is fun.
For an example- I met someone a few weeks ago I think could be my
next perfect lover; the kind I've only met once before and spent
years with...and never knew if I'd meet again. Well...too bad,
she is involved with someone else, and he is a good friend of mine,
so it won't happen soon, if ever. But the point is, life is so
enjoyable just now that *I know* I'm bound to meet other people,
that its more a function of my attitude and spirit towards life
than the perfection of the people I meet, that makes such a rewarding
relationship possible, conceivable, anticipatable even. So I can
enjoy my friends' company without concern or anxiety about my future
partner...she's out there somewhere...we'll meet. I'll be ready!
Meanwhile, I'm still spring-skiing!

| I know it is spring because I feel very energetic...and don't mind
doing torturous Demand Shuttles (all you secretaries know what I
am talkin' about ;-). It is a 1/4 mile walk from my desk to the
front lobby to pick 'em up!!! I actually don't mind the walk now
soooo that must be a sign of sppppprrrring fever!!!

731.5 | Something's in the air.... | CSC32::J_ALBANESE | Life's too short to drink bad wine. | Tue Apr 04 1989 19:08 | 19 |
| I know spring is on the way because of certain a hormonal
buildup. Right around the January/February time frame I
can sense certain urges indicating that spring is on the
way. At first I try to put them off so as not to tease
myself, but eventually (usually toward the end of January)
I break down and buy my first motorcycle magazine! From
there it is down hill, and it takes all my fortitude to
keep from dawning a parka and putting studded tires on
my bike ;^)
Actually, its not as bad since I've moved to Colorado because
the weather often turns nice and allows me to 'satisfy'
myself.
Now with the constant (more or less) good weather, I can
ride enough to keep me at least complacent if not warm.

731.6 | Skip the April showers. | CSC32::J_ALBANESE | Life's too short to drink bad wine. | Tue Apr 04 1989 19:15 | 10 |
| In a more serious vein, living in Colorado I miss the changes
that are so much more abundant in New England in the Spring.
There is much less to bloom here and the weather has a much
more mild transition which almost bypasses any true indication
of spring. Maybe its just that I was spoiled back East, but
I do miss all the colors and everything 'blooming'. However,
I do not miss all the rain and humidity that allows such a
bountiful display - I guess I just want it all.

> What is your 'definition' of spring fever? What happens to you in the
> spring (besides being *out sick* on the first day it hits 70 degrees)?
My definition of Spring Fever is that ache that I get for the
really warm weather of summer. The bright, hot sun; that warm southern
wind; and the knowledge that you're *free* to go out anywhere and do
anything (well, almost! ;-) )! I am *definitely* a summer person!
I've noticed it's most acute in early Spring, when you get an
*occasional* nice day. And then the next day it turns rainy and cold
again (like today :-( ), and you're wondering if you'll ever see the
sun again!
> Let's have this note be you descriptions of Spring Fever and its cures
> (if there are any....)
To me, it's dreaming of going out and playing volleyball, or hiking
up a mountain, or going camping, or going to the beach or dreaming of
doing any one of a thousand things I like to do in the summer...
Argh!!! Whose idea was this, anyway?! *Now* you've done it! ;-)

Geez, Gale, you learn to ski this season, and now you're
living from ski season to ski season???! Sheesh, some people! :-)
:-)
For me, Spring is here when I have this intense longing to be
outside in the warm-but-not-too-humid weather. I hate being
inside when it's really nice out. And going out at lunchtime
makes it soooo much harder to come back in!! I just want to be
outdoors, walking, enjoying the sun, seeing the flowers in bloom,
throwing a frisbee..... <Sigh> is it here yet?? :-)
I also find myself feeling much more alive, and more positive
about myself and life in general. I'm definitely a 'springtime'
person!!

| Yeah Amy.... I can't even bring myself to put away the ski's, I
put them in my bedroom in a corner where I can see them every night
before I fall asleep... sigh...
RE: Vail OUCH! that hurts, but then again, I don't know if I'd know
what to do in REAL pow-dah :-) enjoy the spring skiing kiddo!
I like being able to go out really late at night and just walk and
not have to bundle up to do it... guess that is what makes spring
worth it for me! Plus seeing the girls out riding their bikes (yes,
these are REALLY girls (under the age of 13))... and enjoying the
outside...
But... give me a mountain filled with snow any ole time :-)

731.13 | daffy about daffodils... | GERBIL::IRLBACHER | A middle class bag lady | Wed Apr 05 1989 17:18 | 18 |
| Spring fever causes me to buy huge bunches of daffodils and put
vases stuffed with them all over my house and my office cubie.
And spring officially comes--for me--when I can hike up
NorthPack in Greenfield NH without having to wear knee-hi
wetboots and carry an ice ax. My spring ritual is to climb
this little hump to welcome the coming of summer.
My late fall ritual is to go back up it one more time just to say
goodbye until next spring. I don't know how in heck I got into
the habit of doing this, but I have done it for the past 6 yrs.
I don't feel right--or that the seasons are "official" until I do
it. [have I got a problem?]

It must be spring when the storm windows get pushed up and the sring

(not yet), and looking for new tennis shoes and a new swim suit.
I won't be pineing for the slopes. Gale, maybe you can climb Wachusett?

| I really enjoy this time of the year! The massive sunny blue sky of Colorado
really gets the energy level up!
April has turned me back on to getting into better shape again, lifting some
weights, situps, leglifts, stretching, jumping rope, etc... It's about time to
hit the golf course too, starting with the driving range and practice greens.
And.. I love getting off from work, (graveyard), going home and putting on the
swim trunks, and parking my body in a lounge chair with my "walkman" and sun
tan oil..... laying back and feeling that warm sun, and a slight breeze
blowing... just enough to cool me off.... hmmmmn...
I love spring, and summer for that matter. Seeing green grass and watching
those lawn sprinklers pop up, birds singing, and ... OH!.... in the summer,
when it's hot.... you can sometimes see those beautiful Colorado mountains, some
of which may be snowcapped! And when it gets to hot for ya, you can drive into
the mountains to cool down!
Just wish it lasted longer...

| Spring fever!! I am not going to cure it, this is the fever I want
to keep forever. The weather in Colorado got me mad on weekend;
it was very warm and nice during weekdays, then suddenly on weekend
the weather turned really cold. I was so upset that I smashed dishes
and bowls in my house. Oh well, I'll buy another set for Springs.

Well, the skiing at Vail was certainly pleasant on Thursday, even if
the temperatures in the 60's caused for a bit of slushy conditions
on the lower half of the mountain (but I didn't care - I stayed on
the upper half all day and it was glorious!) Hope you did as
well, Kathy! It seemed to be melting rapidly on Friday!
Spring weather in "The Springs" is certainly wierd!

I always know when I've caught Spring Fever because I start collecting
vacation brochures. So far, within the past two weeks, I've sent
away for information on Outward Bound, Earthwatch expeditions,
vacationing in Vermont, and Club Getaway in the Berkshires. Yup.
I'd definitely say that I've contracted Spring Fever. I also start
daydreaming about white water rafting, amusement parks at the beach,
and hiking right around this time of year. The cure for it all seems
to be November. I'm not too fond of the cure...
I also get more flirtatious in the spring. I think it's biological.
Spring seems to be the time when the rest of the animal kingdom
is in the mood for love too. Who am I to break a trend?
I horseback ride, and I've noticed that the horses start kicking
up their heels this time of year too.
