(ya big commie, unrealistic, naive, JERK !), snicker, snicker ;-).
Just Kidding ! I love your note, it really made me laugh. But
you've got a very valid message. I feel the way you do. You just
have to remember that people like you and I are rare, and we are
the realistic people, all the other dummies are the REAL jerks.
Just keep on helping people and giving your opinions. The worst
anyone can do is call you a *&^%$#@#% JERK , right ? So what !
I've been called worse !

When you put your ideas of how to make thing better in terms of"the
peoples revolution" you should expect less than glowing reviews.
Now that you've found out what your problem is via your early
morning introspection, take the next step and cure yourself of your
jerkiness.

stats reveal 30% poverty?"
IT'S NOT *THAT* GREAT, BUT IT'S STILL THE *BEST*!
"if socialism is bad how come the government has socialized
the tax system such that rich and poor pay the same tax?"
BECAUSE THE RICH ARE SMARTER!
"if dec really had such large profits 4 years in a row how

BECAUSE TAXATION LEADS TO CONTROL. [HOW else are you going to provide
community services and get people off the streets on Sunday? ;-)]

| Suggestion: respond to an entry if you like.
Before sending, Re-read your response. Ask yourself:
Is it saying what I want it to?
Will it offend anyone in particular?
Do I care if it offends the people it might offend?
If you care - change the medium without changing the "message"
I have found some few things you say ill-phrased, but that happens
to everybody....I mean with an audience like this there's bound
to be flamage on occasion - everyone has their sore spots. All
in all, I know very few jerks, and I don't know you too well but
I think I can safely say there isn't enough evidence here to indight
you.
In third grade, when someone called us a jerk, we'd retort:
"A jerk is a pull, a pull is a tug, a tug is a yank, and a Yank
is an American - thanks for the compliment"
.....well I suppose now I'm a little older it's not quite so
comforting.....

nothing particularly jerky about the base noter.

I think the author of the base note is feeling a bit gun shy, because
of reactions he got to his note, paraphrased more here in HUMAN_
RELATIONS, that he entered in SOAPBOX.

Jody, back when I took various English courses in High School and
College, a statement like this was known as "damning with faint
praise".
If the author is *really* feeling down on himself, he could be
thinking "Boy, it's a good think I didn't write any more than I
did. Then she'd have the evidence to *know* I'm a jerk".

What does it take to *really* be a jerk?
I'm not talking lightweight jerks, but
rather industrial strength persistent
jerks.
Any thoughts about that?

| re: .15
*sigh*...
I did not mean to "damn with faint praise", it was meant to be
"light, tongue-in-cheek sarcasm" rather than "foolish, foot-in-mouth
sarcasm". And I honestly mean I have seen very few jerks roaming
the face of the earth - I get the feeling that the process of "natural
selection" precludes them from overrunning the world. When someone
has a different opinion than mine, I don't consider that "jerky"
even if it's (in my eyes) poorly phrased. Often I respond if
I think it's real....sometimes I deem it a decoy and don't rise
to the bait.....
No-one can corner the market on jerkiness - there's enough out there
for all of us to taste it once in a while (in this case humble pie).

Ah, to be a *real* jerk, a healthy dose of belligerence is needed.
I think Rik's a little off base in claiming to be a real jerk, cause
I've seen him in action; he's not belligerent at all!

| There is a catch-22 to all self-labeling: If you think you are a jerk, then
you can't possibly really be one - a real jerk is the person who does jerky
things and never thinks about it.
So you see, you cannot be a jerk (FOOL, yes, jerk, no).
