222.0. "Don't be such a poop!" by CSSE::HIGGINS () Thu Feb 26 1987 13:50

    	I know everyone has their moods, but sometimes they can get
    	a bit out of hand.

    	Have you ever noticed that when you are pleasant with someone
    	and treat them nice they tend to treat you in the same way?
    	You have to admit that when someone gives you a compliment or
    	is happy to help you out with something it boosts your mood
    	and cheers you up. As a result, you treat those around you
    	in the same way.

    	Then there are those people that seem to be in terrible moods almost
    	all the time. I find that their moods also 'rub off' on me
    	after being with them. It's almost like you can predict that
    	what they are going to say is going to be something negative.

    	Don't get me wrong, I am like this sometimes too! I am just
    	saying that I prefer to be in a happy mood because it seems
    	to make those around me more pleasant and cheerful too.

    	So let's all just try to be happy for a change!! :-)

222.4How true! Glad you asked!ZEPPO::MAHLERInhuman Decorum in Human RelationsThu Feb 26 1987 18:1613
    Yeah, I can relate to this. It's confusing sometimes
    especially when the person[s] seem to change his/her
    attitude for no apparent reason. I used to know this
    gal and I even took the trouble to send her a post card
    on my last trip to the Orient. Truly, I did not
    know her ALL that well, because when I returned from
    my trip and asked why I had not heard from her
    [like a humanly THANK you at the least] she called
    me a conceited shithead.

    AMAZING how moronic some people can be.

    .4 brings up another subject, people that don't say thank you.
    If I send a person cards, flowers or gifts I think it is
    appropriate for the person to at least say thank you, if only
    to acknowledge that he/she received it.
    People that feel they are entitled to constantly TAKE are another
    topic that can be discussed.

222.6Cheer up you poops!!!CSSE::REDDYFri Feb 27 1987 12:2716
	I can think of a couple people who are extremely negative
	towards everything in life (especially work). When talking
	to them, they tend to always look at the negative side of
	things. I don't even like to say 'how are you?' because I
        know I'll just hear 'oh, awwwwwwwwwwwright'. I don't expect everyone
	to be enthusiastic and optomistic, but when people are always
        that negative, I really don't even want to associate with them
	because it brings me down.

	When talking to someone who is always positive, they always
	lift my spirits and make it more enjoyable to be around them.

	So, don't be such a 'poop' please!!!!!!!!

222.8on the phoneFAUXPA::ENOBright EyesFri Feb 27 1987 16:1910
    I "have" to be pleasant -- it's job required! I'm an Admin Secretary
    and answer the phone constantly through the day. Part of doing
    my job right is answering in a pleasant way and talking to people
    like I cared what they are saying, even if they are absolute morons,
    or rude to *me*.

    The pleasant phone manner has absolutely NOTHING to do with the
    mood I'm in.

    I used to be very conceited - then I went to a psychiatrist:
    NOW I'm the nicest guy on campus!

    I used to be very depressed - people said "cheer up; things could
    be worse!" So I cheered up,
     Sure enough, things got worse!
