| KO would not use a persona - he has no need of one. KO is not
even read-only - he doesn't use the net at all. His only connection
is by DECmail. Too bad, some of us say.

when writing notes.
KO has no NODE::USERNAME address. He has a DECmail address
(something like "1@DECMAIL"), but I doubt he actually uses the
terminal himself. I understand he has no terminal in his office.

FYI -- KO DOES have a terminal and accounts on both VAXmail and
DECmail. The only people that have access to NODE::USERNAME info
are his direct reports. (ie. The vice presidents and there executive
secretaries.)

| Well done "gentlmen". Care to guess whether the author of .13 is
willing to ask another question in this file?
How many noters have written in this and other conferences to
say that the reason that they are read-only noters is because we
as experienced noters intimidate them, that they are affraid to
"make a fool" of themselves or to appear ignorant. We always
come back and say that they're welcomed and shouldn't be affraid
of us. Then we show the deep compassion illustrated here.
What's the matter, guys? Never run across an "obvious" fact you
happened to not know? I suppose I could let you off by saying
that "when I was your age" I was just as brash and just as
inconsiderate, but would it really get through to you?
Have a heart.

So I was wrong. I have direct deposit, so I haven't seen
a _real_ paycheck in almost 4 years.
And, as I stated in my earlier reply, no offense was meant. I
just thought it was kind of humorous; like coming to live in
the U.S., and then asking who Ronald Reagan is. :-) (no political
comments please) :-)

management's staff has someone who keeps tabs on these NOTES we read
and write...they are a window, an insight to DEC employee's thoughts

many are reading/writing NOTES !

Lynne, as far as anyone can tell, Ken doesn't read NOTES at all.
He has four secretaries just to handle his mail. I imagine that if
anything REALLY significant came up in NOTES that someone would
make him aware of it.

| Steve,
I'm sure you're right. I'm sure he doesn't have time to read notes.
I applied for one of his secretaries jobs and was actually offered
it. Actually, it was secretary to Ann Jenkins, his secretary.
I would have been reading ALL of Ken Olsen's papermail and forwarding
it to the proper people. I turned down the job because I would
have been monitored constantly on what I did to make sure that I
wasn't doing any personal work at all (Like notes). Sorry, not
for me.
