154.0. "TIPS FOR LONGEVITY" by USMRM2::SWHITTICK () Thu Nov 20 1986 17:13
Perhaps my two cents can add to many voices of married - and- loving
it testimonials. Ingredients? one - like your mate! Yes, "like",
not just "love" The initial attractions (physical, emotional, idi-
osyncracies, etc.) must continue to a source of amusement, enchantment,
and a "turn on". Don't permit the usual to become too commonplace
in your esteem. We, unfortunately live in a world of constant change,
newness, and variety, that there is often an expectation for love
and marriage to be just as "exciting". Two - Express yourself!
Being open and truthful is good, but remember to be complimentary,
we all need to hear something good, once in a while. Express your
fears, joys, likes, fantasies - all without fear that such will
make you vulnerable - on the contrary, it builds trust. Three -
for Pete's sake have empathy! Put yourself in your partner's place.
Criticize yourself, from his/her point of view. You know you can't
always be right, verbalize it!!
Just some thoughts from 14 years and going strong!
