    Just wanted to give a heads up on a problem we have encountered
    twice that I know of at the Colorado CSC. I dont know all the
    details but wanted to let people know what we encountered.
    
    
    	In both instances the systems involved were Alpha 7000 systems.
    The field service engineers upgraded the console to the version
    4.9 which is on the newest 3.9 Alpha firmware cdrom. 
        After the upgrade neither system would boot(got a msg "failed to
    open device". In both cases the system disk was on a CI based MTI 
    controller.
    
    	In one case, a "show device" from the ">>>" prompt would show
    all the disks up to DUA67 (all these drives were DEC disk drives)
    every time.
    	The disk drives above DUA67 were all MTI disks and sometimes
    they would show up and more often they would not show up.
    
    	In both cases the systems were running fine with console version
    4.3 before the upgrade. Downgrading the consoles back to 4.3 fixed 
    the problem.
