1261.0. "DEC 7610 multi voltage regulator seating prob?" by GIDDAY::BENBROOK (Brisbane ruLes) Fri May 02 1997 04:31
I've been working with a DEC 7610 that has intermittent instances
where Errorlog has all 3 XMI devices register errors. An earlier
note suggested the "multi voltage regulator" could be the cause.
Since the symptom certainly could be power related, I went for a swap.
Horrors!!!!! On checking the regulator, and replacing it, I
found that neither the original one, nor the new one, was making
any more than 1/16" worth of contact with its receptacle !!!
I removed the large supply (to compare connectors) and found a large
difference in the seating of the regulators. This large supply has
at least 1/4" of contact - the connector it meshes with sits out a
whole lot more than the multi voltage connector does.
Since the site has 2 7610's, we took the other system down - and
found it was identical. Again, the multi voltage supply is only just
in mesh with its connector (approx. 1/16" too).
I could see no way to mount the connector further out (to give
better contact) so simply replaced the regulator anyway, and decided
to burst into print ...
I did use DIR/TITLE using POWER, SEATing, CONNECTor, REGULATor &
MULTI to see if this had been mentioned previously, but found nothing.
I believe the tiny amount of meshing is a potential trouble spot,
but what do others think ? Anyone been there, done that ??
