Do you think Maynard has a strong sense of community? This might seem like a strange question to ask, but over the last 15 years I have become very aware of what a sense of community means. I have never lived in Maynard, but I worked at the Mill in 1980-81 and have visited Maynard several times a year since then: to go to my dentist (Dr. Karp), to visit friends at the Mill, to go on a Volkswalk (1993?), etc. It seems like a nice place to live. I seriously considered living there when I worked at the Mill, but I didn't because my job was slated to move to Marlboro (even before I took the job) and I didn't want to commute that far, nor did I want to move again in a year. Since then my work has been too far from Maynard to conveniently commute from there. Based on the time I have spent here and on reading this conference, I sense that Maynard has a strong sense of community. Certainly stronger than some of the adjoining towns, such as Boxboro.

I've lived in Maynard for 15 years and have grown to love it. I was brought up in West Concord (which is sometimes called "East Maynard" and would never have considered living in Maynard until I found out that I couldn't afford to live in the town I grew up in! People are very real and down to earth in Maynard. Mark Higgins | |||||

I recently decided to look for a house. I'd live in Maynard for 5 1/2 years in a condo, and thought that I wanted to move closer in to the city. After looking in a number of towns I decided that Maynard was the place I wanted to continue to live in. I like the people, the location, the town. I wish and hope that it will prosper and that we'll get more stores downtown. I think Maynard has a unique quality to it that I don't see in other towns. Maybe its because of its size, or the combination of people. Whatever it is, I like it, and I've decided to make it home for a lot longer than I ever planned to. ****andrea**** |
