485.0. "1995 Assabet Valley Little League News" by PCBUOA::MORGAN () Thu Mar 30 1995 13:42

The Assabet Valley (Maynard and Stow) Little League season is fast
approaching. We are always looking for volunteers to help out in any
way. If you, or anyone you know, would be interested in umpiring games
from the minor to senior league levels (ages 9-15) feel free to give
either myself (897-7481) or Bill Ignachuck (897-2125) a call. This
would apply to both baseball and softball. Thank you!

As an added incentive the League pays umpires in the senior division
(baseball). These are usually the umpires that have proven themselves
in the minors/majors from past years that get moved up but we're always
    in need of new blood/talent.

485.2Jimmy Fund All-StarsPCBUOA::MORGANMon Jul 31 1995 08:2415
The AVLL 10 year old Jimmy Fund All-Stars will be having a can and
bottle drive this Saturday at the Maynard High School parking lot from
12:00 - 3:00. Cans will also be collected at the Star Market parking
lot during those same hours. If you would like to have cans or bottle
picked up you can give me a call at 897-7481. All donations benefit
    the Jimmy Fund.

The kids will also be collecting donations in the downtown area as well
as the Victory and Star Markets, this Thursday night from 6:00 - 8:00.
The top fund raising team in the tournament enjoys a Red Sox game on
Sept. 23rd. Last year we missed out on the the top prize by only $59,
so we're working extra hard this year. Any help you can provide would
    be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Here is an update on our fundraising activities. Thanks to everyone
that contributed bottles and cans. We raised $412 that day as well as
another $550 at the supermarkets and downtown area. In all, 14 ten
year old kids raised a total of $3,086 for the Jimmy Fund, a very
impressive number given that there are no corporate contributions
included. We still have to wait another week or so to find out if we
are the top fund raising team in our district, which would enable us
to go to a Red Sox game on Sept. 23rd.

Our last regular season game is tonight at Alumni Field as we host
North Reading, whose record is 11-1. Ours is 11-0-1. Should we win we
clinch first place and would go to the Pawtucket Red Sox game on
    Sunday. Game time is 5:45.

I'm sure you're waiting with baited breath regarding the outcome of
    last night's game right? :-)

We won, 3-2, in a sixth inning comeback. We were down 2-1 in the
bottom of the sixth. J.P. Christian led off with a walk, Sean Morgan
tripled and Brooks Harrington knocked in the winning run with a line
drive to right center. It was a terrific game to be a part of, and
we're very proud of the outstanding job the kids did all season. Our
record now stands at 12-0-1 with one game to play on Saturday, which
is just a formality. Each kid will receive a trophy and we will be
attending the Pawtucket Red Sox game on Sunday, for having won the
    tournament.

Once again, thanks to everyone who made a donation to the Jimmy Fund,
in one way or another, over the past month. We should know by the end
of the week if we were the top fund raising team.

    Steve,

I just want to heap praise upon you, your coaching staff, and the team
itself. I was at that 3-2 victory, and it was one of the greatest
comebacks I have seen. Congrats on an excellent tournament.
485.6Final Update on 1995 seasonPCBUOA::MORGANFri Sep 08 1995 17:598
To give a final update of the Jimmy Fund collections. The Assabet
Valley team won first prize with a total of $3,086. I'm not sure who
the nearest competitor was or how much they raised. We'll be going to
the Red Sox game on September 23rd against Toronto, compliments of the
Jimmy Fund (or more likely the Red Sox). Once again, thanks to all who
    donated.
