484.0. "Upcoming town elections in 1995..." by PRAGMA::GRIFFIN (Dave Griffin) Thu Mar 02 1995 09:31

If anybody out there has ever thought of running for school committee,
now would be a good time.

At last check, nobody has filed papers to fill the upcoming slot(s).

If not elected, someone will be appointed by the selectmen.

Nomination papers for the May 1st, 1995 Maynard town election were filed
several weeks ago.

George Shaw, after several terms on the Board of Selectmen, decided not
to run again. Four people are competing for the one Selectman's seat.
Everyone else running for office is an unopposed incumbent.

The four candidates for the Board of Selectmen are...
- Anne Marie Desmarais, from the Board of Health
- Blaine Defreitas, whose signs trumpet the fact that he's an attorney
- Ed Mullin, a teacher (Lincoln-Sudbury?) & the former MHS football coach
- Scott Bailey, who I don't know at all

The unopposed imcumbents are as follows:
- Paul Howes, running for another 3-year term on the School Committee
- Charles Nevala, 5-year term on the Housing Authority
- Bill Cullen, 3-year term Library Trustees
- Anne-Marie Lesniak-Betley was appointed to a vacancy on the Library Trustees
last year when Hal Shubin left. She has to run for a 1-year term, then her
seat is up for a 3-year term in 1996.
- Dick Gerroir, Moderator a 1-year term

The League of Women Voters will have a candidate's forum later this month.

Election day is Monday May 1st. Town meeting is Monday, May 15th.

The League of Women Voters candidate's forum is Tuesday, April 25th
from 7 to 9 PM at Maynard High School.

It will be very interesting to see how the Selectmen's candidates
    compare to one another.
