| While I was on the way to work one morning a couple weeks ago, I saw
three deer crossing 117 in Stow. It was right before the DEC plant
(coming from Maynard), near the gas station.

| Last Saturday night, I was on Rt117 at the Sudbury line, and there was
a deer grazing on the side of the road. This was at 6:30 p.m. He was
frozen in place as I drove by, but I lost him in the dark after
passing.
All the new housing and golf course development in the area is driving
the deer out of the woods, where they have been safe for years. If you
really want a thrill, go to the Butternut Golf Course in Stow, at about
dusk. There have been coyotes heard in the woods behind Wheelers Pond.

480.3 | 117 a haven for Deer | ASABET::DICENZO | Tony DiCenzo - KX1G | Tue Nov 29 1994 09:40 | 19 |
| Last Wednesday morning there was a buck with a fairly developed rack of
antlers walking down my driveway on Longfellow road off rte 117 is
north Sudbury. I expect this may have been the same deer people have
been spotting.
He did not stay long. Was just walking through and have not spotted him
since.
There have been several spots of deer on rte 117 in the
Maynard/Sudbury/Concord area, usually nearer the fields in Concord.
I have also seen herds of deer in Stow in the fields
near the corner of 117 and the road after rte 62 (don't know the name
of the road, but it has a gas station on the east corner and
a professional building on the west corner.).
Isn't deer hunting this week or next?

Deer hunting started last Sat.
We often see a lot of deer prior to hunting season and
after the season...but during the season, many deer are
frighted back INTO the woods.

| Gee, you should come visit Boxboro. Not only do we have deer in our
backyards, we have wild turkeys walking down Flagg Hill Road -- a whole
family: mom, dad, and 3 "little" ones. So much fun -- they just stand
there and dare you to hit them. The school bus really has fun with
them!
Then there are the coyotes down by the airport, the cows on Burroughs
Road, the horses on Liberty Square -- it's so much fun living in the
'country'!

One of the co-workers said that she hit a deer several years ago at the
spot you mentioned -- somewhere near the Stow facility.
In fact, I saw some deer on the left side of Hudson Road in Stow
(where the new housing development is) a couple of years ago. I was
not as surprised that time because it was a big wooded area.
re. all
The reason I wrote .0 was that I had not expected to see deer on that
part of Rt. 27. It is a fairly busy road in a basically developed
area with not too much woods behind.
The other reason was I wanted to caution people when they drive through
there after dark -- there's deer out there, be careful.

on rte 27 in Maynard near the Sudbury line. When it darted out
of the woods to cross the street.

| I have seen two deer hit in I495 (Boxboro....) this summer. I had not
realized that was common, but others say it is not uncommon. And i
hear a Volvo and MOOSE had a close encounter of the sudden kind in
Sudbury recently...
(I think a rise in sightings (including collisions) is generally a good
thing, as it indicates the puplations are rising, which i think is a
good thing. I have a couple of "deer whistles" on my m/c. Guess I
need some for the car... Some say they do not work, i figger they are
better than nothing....)

| It was noted in this past week's Beacon, that a deer was seen running
into the fence surrounding the Getty station in downtown Maynard.
