473.0. "10 Year Old Jimmy Fund Tournament" by RAAJI::MORGAN () Tue Aug 02 1994 12:54

Once again the Assabet Valley Little League is sponsoring teams in the
District Jimmy Fund Tournament. Other towns included are, Arlington, No.
Reading, Wakefield and Woburn.

I'm most familiar with the 10 and under team as I'm coaching them. So far our
record is 2-2, with wins coming against No. Reading National (14-7) and Woburn
American (12-10). Our two losses were to Wakefield American (10-8) and a heart-
breaker to No. Reading American (3-2). We have 13 kids that have played with
great enthusiasm.

The roster for the team in alphabetical order is: Mark Athorn, Dave Baczkowski,
Frank Dzerkacz, Bob Hastry, Scott Ignachuck, Mike King, Mark Latta, Harry
LeSage, Scott MacGillivary, Steve Martell, Sean Morgan, Nathan Stevens and Jon
Watt. Bill Ignachuck is assisting me in coaching the team.

As is the case each year, there is an incentive for being the top fund raising
team in this Jimmy Fund Tournament. Traditionally, Assabet Valley has done
very well and has won the prize of attending a Red Sox game for the past several
years. We would very much like to continue the tradition set forth by previous
teams. We have decided to have the kids ask for donations on Thursday night,
Aug. 4th in the downtown area. We will also be having a bottle/can drive on
Saturday, Aug. 6th from 9:00-12:00. If you could be so kind as to drop off your
returnable bottle/cans at the Maynard High School parking lot on Great Rd.
between those hours, it would be most appreciated. If, for some reason, you
would like to donate your cans but cannot bring them to the high school, feel
free to contact me at 897-7481, and we can make arrangements to pick them up.
Thank you.

The remaining schedule of home games is:

Wed. July 27th - Wakefield National
Sat. July 30th - Woburn American
Mon. Aug. 1st - North Reading American
Fri. Aug. 5th - Wakefield Central
Mon. Aug. 8th - Wakefield American

473.1Week in reviewRAAJI::MORGANTue Aug 02 1994 12:5617
Two more wins last week. We handed Arlington their first loss in two years
on Friday, 4-3 in extra innings. 4-5 OUTSTANDING plays defensively in
that game. We then beat Woburn on Saturday, 15-8 in a slugfest, to
move into second place with a 4-2 record.

Tonight we play No. Reading at home. Game time is 5:45. This team
beat us previously, 3-2, so there's added motivation to win.

And if anyone's still reading this, don't forget that the Jimmy Fund
bottle/can drive is this Saturday. Please drop off returnable cans and
bottles at the Maynard High School parking lot between the hours of
9:00-12:00. If you're unable to get them there, I'd gladly come pick
them up. Home phone # is 897-7481. Thanks much!

There's been a change in the location of the bottle/can drive drop-off.
Instead of the St. Bridget's parking lot, it's been changed to the
Maynard High School parking lot. The time has also changed to
9:00-12:00 AM. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause anyone.

First, I'd like to thank all those folks that contributed bottles and
cans on behalf of our team for the Jimmy Fund. We raised a total of
$1570, which wasn't enough to win top prize, but did educate the kids
    about charities, etc.

We finished the regular season last night by beating the Arlington
National team 16-9, leaving us with an 8-3 record and 2nd place. A
fantastic job was turned in by all 13 kids on the team. We have a one
game playoff on Saturday morning to wrap up the season.
