If there is another not pertaining to what I am asking than by all means move this note. How do you go about getting a memorial marker w/flag put on a Veterians grave? Two years ago my parents died and my Dad was a Vet. He has the plaque which is in the ground that states what he served in, etc. Last year when Memorial Day came around and they had the parade and the people when to the Cemetery and put the flags in they did not leave one on my Dad's. My brother who is friends with Jerry Burns (who takes care of St. Bridgets Cemetery) asked Jerry and he told him that they must has over looked him. I would like to get one for him since he does deserve it. Does anyone know who I can contact about this. Any information would be appreciated. THanks, Liz (a former Maynardian)

You might also call the funeral director that handled the burial. They are generally very helpful with this sort of thing and are aware of the cemetary's maintenance and administration considerations. Jim

Liz, the Veteran's agent is Ralph Sambucci. You can do one of two things: 1. Write a note to Ralph explaining the situation and mail it to his attention at the Municipal Building, or; 2. Send me a note with your father's full name and location in the cemetery, and I'll give it to Ralph. Also, if your father belonged to any fraternal organizations, such as the Elks, K of C, Masons, etc., they also put out Memorial Day flags. Frank

By the way, there are few more poignant activities in town than helping set up the flags for Memorial Day -- especially for kids aged 10 or so and up. I always attend the Memorial Day parade and events, but being handed a list of names, a plot layout, and 50 flags to plant near the honoree is a very personal experience. My family did this last year and my daughter was struck with just how many people from this little town served or died in battle. Names on a list are certainly one thing (as any vistor to "The Wall" in D.C. can tell you), but visiting sites, seeing how wars affected entire families is a lesson in history and humility. They can always use some help... Walk with your kids -- point out what they might not see. - dave
