420.0. "May 3, 1993 Town Election" by HELIX::RUZICH (VAXELN Realtime Software Engineering) Wed Mar 17 1993 09:56

Monday was the last day to file nomination papers for the May town elections.
Anyone who filed valid papers will be on the ballot.

Two seats are up for election on the Board of Selectmen.
They are currently occupied by Ken DeMars and Bob Gilligan, both of whom
are running for reelection. In addition, former Selectman Bill King has
filed papers.

The School Committee race is a little complicated.
This is a five member board, with a three year term.

Two seats are at the end of the three year terms; these are currently
occupied by Cindy Parker and Mark Wesley. Tom Konetzny's seat would
have been up in 1994; however, he quit last Fall, and Carolyn Burgess
was appointed to the position. Consequently, that seat will be subject
to election this May as a 1-year seat. (Then the seat is up again in
1994, to return to the normal rotation.) You may recall that Mark
Wesley was also appointed to fill a seat, but that seat is up in 1993,
anyway.

To summarize, the School Committee seats which are up in May are now
occupied as follows:

	3-year:	Cindy Parker
		Mark Wesley
	1-year: Carolyn Burgess

And here's who has filed nomination papers for those positions:

	3-year:	Cindy Parker
		Mark Wesley
		Carolyn Burgess
	1-year: Betsy Griffin

This means that for the 1-year seat, Betsy Griffin has the job.
Of the three candidates for the 3-year seats, only two can be elected.

Library Trustee Hal Shubin was appointed to fill a term; he is now
running unopposed.

Incumbent Moderator Dick Gerroir is running unopposed (a 1-year term), as is
Housing Authority member Stan Nowick.

Election day is May 3rd, the first Monday in May.
