I live in Maynard and work in MRO. (Tell me again me why I must commute out of Maynard to work for Digital? :-) So I travel the well worn 117 to 495 route day in and day out. Often in the morning I end up travelling behind a tanker truck with the Town of Maynard seal on it heading in the same direction as I, usually with lots of company as the driver usually maintains a speed considerably lower than the speed limit. The first time this happened I figured, it's a Maynard truck on town business it can't be going too far, so don't fret, but when I ended up following it to 495 I wondered what the heck it's business was. However that curiosity was soon forgotten. Until the next time, and the next time, and then next time. Now I am really curious where does this tanker truck go? What is its mission? At least the next time I am in the 30 car train that tags along behind it I'll know why. john

John, the tanker truck contains sludge from the Sewage Treatment Plant and it goes to Auburn or Millbury (can't remember which) several times a week. Frank

John - May I suggest leaving a little early. Following a sludge truck can be pretty gross! -sandy (who's husband works where sludge truck are filled...)

Well, it was one thing I thought of, but the truck seemed too clean for that. Matter of fact as I passed it 495 today I had the thought, "gee, that truck looks nice and clean." Almost like one of the milk trucks I saw plying the route from Boston to Vermont. I guess it ain't milk :-) Sandy, I do my best, but with having to drop a 6 year old at GM everyday it isn't often good enough. john

I will pass along the fact that it has been noticed that the town truck is kept clean --- my husband is the foreman at the WWTP and the driver is also a friend of ours. He (the truck driver) keeps the truck in A1 condition and has even spent some of his own money to make the truck look better! Now the smell -----hmmmmmmm, that is a definate different subject ;-) |
