366.0. "From All Walks of Life '92" by 39705::MATHEWS (Falcon, Huge, Colt...get it?) Thu Apr 16 1992 16:52

Plans are Underway for Seventh Annual AIDS Walk

Plans are now underway for the "From All Walks of Life '92", a pledge walk to
benefit the AIDS Action Committee (AAC) and 28 other community-based agencies
dealing with AIDS. The Walk, which has been described as a 6-mile block party,
will be held on Sunday, May 31, starting at 10 a.m. on the Boston Common and
ending at the Hatch Shell.

This will mark the seventh anniversary of the "From All Walks of Life" in
Boston. Last year, over 25,000 walkers raised over $2 million. Digital has
been a corporate sponsor of the Walk for the past five years. In the 1991
Walk, over 500 Digital employees raised nearly $60,000, of which $40,000 was
matched by the company's Matching Gift Program, which made the total
contribution by Digital employees just over $100,000.

Digital has been recognized by the AAC as being the first employer to
contribute over $100,000 to the Walk in one year, through grants, matching
gifts, and employee contributions. Seventy-five other corporations, large and
small, help to underwrite the cost of the Walk. Many of them are Digital
customers.

The festive nature of the Walk does not diminish the seriousness of the AIDS
epidemic or this year's 11th anniversary of the first recorded AIDS death.
During the first decade of the AIDS epidemic (1981-1991), more than 1 million
American men, women and children became infected with HIV, and more than
130,000 died of AIDS. Money is urgently needed to fund prevention programs
since educations is the only "vaccine" available at this time, and to care for
the growing number of AIDS patients.

The name of the walk reflects the participants-people "from all walks of life"
care about those affected by AIDS and come out to show their concern.

Sponsors and walkers are needed for this year's Walk. If you are interested in
walking or can volunteer some time, call the Digital Employee WALK '92
committee at either (DTN) 223-3130 (Donna Wells), (DTN) 297-9715 (Jeremy
Mathews), or contact your local site Health Services department.

Look for posters soon announcing your site's activities and information on
how you can be part of this event.

To add this years notes conference specificaly for the "From All Walks of Life"
to your notebook, press SELECT or KP7 now.

Re: "From All Walks of Life '92" Kick-off Rally - 6 May 1992

You are cordially invited to attend a kick-off rally for "From All
Walks of Life" to benefit the AIDS Action Committee (AAC) of
Massachusetts and other community-based agencies dealing with AIDS.
The Walk, characterized by some as a 6 mile block party, will be held
on Sunday, May 31st in Boston, starting at the Boston Common.

The Corporate Kick-off Rally will be in the MSO2 cafeteria on
Wednesday, May 6th from 9:00-11:00; a program is attached.

Digital is a major corporate sponsor of the Walk along with 40 other
businesses and organizations, large as well as small, many of whom are
Digital customers. Corporate sponsors help to underwrite the cost of
the Walk so that all the monies raised go directly to AIDS Action and
the 28 designated agencies. Last year nearly $2.3 million was raised
    in one day.

Digital is a critical player in another way. Ever since we have been a
corporate sponsor, we have also been the largest single contributor to
the Walk. Each year we have more than doubled the number of walkers
and the monies raised. Last year, Digital contributed $100,000 to From
All Walks of Life in corporate sponsorship, matching gifts and employee
    participation.

Come help us start this year's journey:

o Learn about DEC involvement, special events, registration
    	    and on-site sign-up

o Learn more about AAC from their representatives

o Learn more about the Walk itself

o Learn about the recipient agencies

o Get pledge sheets, posters, buttons and other goodies

         It's happening on May 6th . . . . . . . . Just say YES!

From All Walks of Life '92 - May 31, 1992

"From All Walks of Life '92", which was held on Sunday, May 31st, was a
phenomenal success! 35,000 walkers raised more than $2,500,000.

More than 500 Digital employees walked, with their friends, loved ones,
children, spouses, families, partners, significant others, and/or parents.
Digital employees raised approximately $65,000, $50,000 of which will be
matched by Digital's Matching Gift Program. This amount will grow even
higher over the next month as final pledges drift in.

Digital Equipment Corporation, a major corporate sponsor of the Walk, was a
prominent player in the day's activities. Besides walking, Digital
employees also pitched in to be greeters, registrars, banner carriers,
corporate team tent workers, and photographers. The energy and the
enthusiasm on Sunday was overwhelming! Digital employees who registered
onsite or at the corporate team tent received a specially-designed Digital
T-shirt.

Nobody seemed to mind the rain-threatening skies thanks to lively
entertainment along the route and frequent refreshment stops. At the Walk's
finale, they played the Walk theme song, "That's What Friends Are For.",
which was simulcast on more than 90 radio stations. Everyone stood
arm-in-arm to sing along, and there were lots of smiles and hugs and tears.

We, who have worked to help make this year's Walk the most successful ever,
wish to each and every one of you. On behalf of the AAC, FAWOL'92, all the
recipient agencies, and Digital, we thank you for your support this year and
in all past years.

To thank you for your participation in "From All Walks of Life '92", you are
cordially invited to a THANK-YOU CELEBRATION BREAKFAST. We will have
pictures, a count on how much Digital employees raised, and lots of stories
to share about the Walk. Everyone is invited, whether you walked, volunteered,
sponsored a walker, etc..

Date: Wednesday, June 3, 1992
Time: 8:30 - 11:00 AM
Place: MSO2 Cafeteria

Again, thank you all very much! You each have made a contribution in the
fight against AIDS and you all have made a difference!

Sincerely,

The Digital FAWOL'92 Steering Committee
