For the longest time, the Town of Maynard finally has a normal color fire truck!! Yesterday, the Town of Maynard received their new 1991 Emergency-One fire truck from Greenwood Apparatus Company of Middleboro, MA. This replaces Engine 2 a 1972 Peter Pirsch fire truck that was used as a rescue/pumper. I won't bore you with all the bells and whistles, but it looks great to see a red fire truck in the station. The new truck will hopefully be in service by the end of the week or the begining of next week. Ken Priest

As Ken mentioned, the new truck was made by Emergency One and the apparatus was added by Greenwood in Middleboro. It is my understanding that Emergency One was so impressed by the work done by Greenwood, and the color and lettering design by the Maynard Fire Department, that they are planning on using a picture of the new truck in their 1993 promotional calendar. Aside: MCI Concord offers a refurb/repaint program for local fire departments and the plans are to cycle some of other fire trucks through to eventually get them all the normal color. Frank

fwiw department: The yellow was a federal reccomendation/requirement. Somebody ran some tests and found it had higher visibility. Took a lot of flack for that, people LIKE red firetrucks.... regards dwp

i think there were some problems with the yellow trucks becoming invisible under certain lighting conditions, such as yellow sulfer lights. edh. |
